The Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos, New Mexico will host a two-week writer’s residency in Lois Palken Rudnick’s memory in January 2025.
Lois’ association with the MDL house began not long after the publication of her biography Mabel Dodge Luhan: New Woman New Worlds and resulted in her second book on Mabel, Utopian Vistas, The Mabel Dodge Luhan House and the American Counterculture. Her research for this work also resulted in the MDL House becoming listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Lois was a long-time cultural historian of Southwestern literature, art, and modernism. Her greatest passion was mentoring young scholars and educators. Preference will be given to applications that in some way reflect these ideas and ideals.
The Mabel Dodge Luhan House has long served as a home for writer’s workshops and retreats and as a place of solitude for writers. There are few amenities and no distractions such as televisions.
Details: The residency will be at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House Historic Inn and Conference Center, 240 Morada Lane, Taos, NM 87571. The Application deadline is August 1, 2024. The Residency takes place from January 5 through January 19, 2025.
